2013 Real Australian Photo Comp

The 2013 Real Australian Cow Photographic Competition results have been published with comments by judge Keith Dorries, Oakey, Qld.  Thanks go to Dean & Di Malcolm of CrazyCow Magazine and AgriGene for their support of this competition, Neville and Marie Mueller of SA for compiling all the photos and information and the Photo Competition Committee for carrying out the thankless task of choosing the finalists.

Aged Cow In Milk:

Judge's comments:  F appears to be a very silky cow throughout.  She has great bone quality and is cleaner in the brisket and rump than E who has great capacity and better udder attachments than A.  A has more texture to her udder and is a little cleaner than C who has a more open frame than D.  D displays a very good mammary system to place over B.

Judge's comments:  B is the most impressive cow of the competition displaying a powerful head with a great muzzle.  She has a wide, deep chest and depth of body with an excellent mammary system.  E has an outstanding dairy frame to go over F who has a very good udder and appears deeper and more open in the body than D.  D also displays a very good udder which gives her the advantage over C.  C has more strength to her head than A.

Judge's comments:  B is a clear winner with an outstanding udder and great body capacity.  E, although a little immature, is well balanced and stronger through her top line than F who is cleaner in the brisket and is longer than C.  C is cleaner in the thigh than A.  A is better balanced than D.

2-3 years in Milk:

Judge's comments:  F has great balance to her frame and udder.  She is also cleaner in the neck than D who does display a wonderful udder.  D also has more strength in her front end than E.  E is sharper and has more udder texture than B who has more bloom to her than C.  C is more correct through her front end than A who does have a good mammary.

Judge's comments:  A displays a deep angular frame in a close placing over F.  F appears to be a slightly longer heifer than C who is a classy heifer and who is more correct in her thurl placement than E.  E has more length and style than B who is deeper in the body than D.
