The 2014 Victorian Branch’s calf day saw 7 exhibitors show 38 head of cattle at the Kyabram Show Grounds on Monday 7 April 2014. Judge was Daniel Bacon from Brookboora Jersey Stud, Tennyson.
In recent years, the ICSA Victorian branch has focused the annual calf day on the youth and future breeders. This year was no exception with bigger than normal parader classes with a large contingent of spectators also present on the day.
Winner of the Junior Parader class was Darby McClaren (8 years), who led Glencliffe Princess 745 to narrowly win over Dustin Varcoe (4 years) and Bryce McClaren who led Glencliffe Beauty 751 and Glencliffe Topsey 758. The boys, all showing for the first time, backed up the Junior Parader class to again lead their heifers in the first class of the day.
Zoe Hayes led her heifer strongly, to win the Senior Handler Class (aged 12 – 18 years) which was sponsored by the National Centre for Dairy Education Australia. The class featured 13 young handlers, all leading Illawarra Heifers and included 4 enthusiastic young people from the Deniliquin High School Dairy Team who led heifers from Glen Meadow and Wallumlands Studs.
Deniliquin High School Team member, Maddison Strong was awarded the Encouragement award by Judge Daniel Bacon. Maddison won a halter donated by Three Creeks Illawarra Stud, which will no doubt get plenty of use in the future.
Place getters for all classes were evenly spread between the exhibitors, with most successful exhibitor and Senior Champion, closely contended.

The Tuhan Family (Riversleigh Stud) won most Successful Exhibitor with the Hayes (Llandovery Stud) and Tidcombe (Wallumlands Stud) families coming second and third respectively.
The 2014 Illawarra Calf day was strongly supported by a range of sponsors that included Dairy Australia’s “Legendairy” program, NCDEA, Crowther Sheds, Murray Goulburn, Reid Stockfeeds, CopRice, Rex James Stockfeeds and National Australia Bank.
Over 80 people enjoyed the fun and festivities following the conclusion of the Illawarra and Guernsey calf show. A BBQ lunch, multiple prize lucky draw and games ended the day. Full results follow.
