Riversleigh Tulip 10 owned and exhibited by Michael Tuhan, Tatura, has taken out the top gong at the Melbourne Royal Show.
After winning the aged cow class, Tulip was named Best Udder before taking out Champion Cow and Supreme Illawarra Exhibit under Judge, Wendy Young of the UK.
The Riversleigh stud also took Reserve Intermediate with Riversleigh Empire's Belle 13 under Champion, Llandovery Jo-Bobs Verbena owned by the Twamley family (Three Creeks Partnership).
The Twamley's second broad ribbon went to the Reserve Champion Junior, Three Creeks Rosarian 4.
Tim and Natalie Cochrane were named Most Successful Exhibitor, taking out two broad ribbons including Junior Champion with Bluechip Absolute Pamela and Reserve Champion Cow with Kangawarra Malda 3075.
In the Junior Show, Eagle Park Monarch Malda 3527 owned by Brad Gavenloch and Jessica Achen was lead to the Reserve Junior Championship by Zoe Hayes, daughter of Tony and Elle Hayes,
In the inter-breed competition, Bluechip Absolute Pamela was awarded Supreme Champion Junior under Judge, Brian Leslie. Riversleigh Tulip 10 while placed in the final four lineup unfortunately did not get a ribbon.
ICSA Vice President, Geoff Cochrane, said while Illawarra numbers were small, 35 in total, he felt the quality was very high. As father of Tim Cochrane, he was also very proud of Tim and Natalie Cochrane's achievement in being awarded the title of Best Maintained Team of the dairy show given that their cattle spent 14hours on the truck to travel to the show. Geoff also claims a connection with the Champion Cow, Riversleigh Tulip as it is a descendant of a cow born over 100 years ago which was owned by Geoff's grandfather. However, one of Geoff's greatest delights was taking grandson Riley on a tram ride into the city to celebrate Riley's 6th birthday on Tuesday, without getting lost.
