Five exhibitors presented 50 animals to Judge, Jason Phillips of Toowoomba, at Maleny Show on Friday, June 1, 2012. Unfortunately for show goers there was disappointing weather but fortunately both breed and inter-breed judging was carried out in between showers.
The Ledger Family with assistance from Lloyd Peters and Bryan and Patrick Noakes presented twelve animals for three broad ribbons, Champion Cow with Riverwood Lucy 2 and Champion and Reserve Champion Junior Heifer with Riverwood Miranda 2 and Riverwood Joan 6 respectively.
Champion Juvenile went to Den Dia Partnership with their U12 mth heifer, Den Dia Buttercup 2, with F S Johnston & Sons taking out Reserve Champion Juvenile with Jondene Jessie.
F S Johnston & Sons also won Reserve Champion Cow with Jondene Barbara 9 with the Honourable Mention sash going to Mount Vista April owned and exhibited by R & S Voss.
Judge, Jason Phillips, congratulated exhibitors on the absolutely fantastic display of Illawarras with his highlights being the 3-4yrs in milk class and the 5-7yrs in milk class. Jason commented that five cows could have won the championship ribbon.
The Ledger Family also experienced immense satisfaction in the all breeds on-ground milking competition, obtaining outstanding results.
Rosedale Bygold Belle won Champion Milk and Champion Butterfat producing 41.94 kgs of milk and 2.11kgs of butterfat at 5.04% over 24 hours with Riverwood Madam being named Reserve Champion Butterfat with a yield of 2.02kgs at 6.6% from 30.5kgs of milk.
Champion Protein Cow was Den Dia Minnie 3 owned by the Den Dia Partnership with 1.1kgs of protein at 3.02% from 37.9kgs of milk.
In the heifer section, Riverwood Miranda 2 owned by the Ledger Family was named Champion producing 34.69kgs of milk for 1.38kgs of fat at 3.9% and 1.04 kgs protein at 3.01%. The Reserve Championship went to Riverwood Joan 6 with 30.88 kgs of milk for 1.16 kgs of fat at 3.77% and 0.94 kgs protein at 3.05%.
In the inter-breed competition, the Illawarras won Supreme Champion with Riverwood Lucy 2 (Ledger Family). Rosedale Bygold Belle (Ledger Family) won Supreme Champion Udder and Jondene Jessie (F S Johnston & Sons) won Supreme Champion Juvenile Heifer. Illawarras also won the Supreme Pen of Cows and Supreme Pen of Heifers.
