The latest ADHIS figures on the National production averages show that the Illawarra breed has moved into second spot with an average of 6322 litres of milk at 463 kgs of fat plus protein.
This is an increase of 20.9% in milk and 18.3% in fat plus protein over the last nine years, outstripping all other breeds.
These figures combined with the breed characteristics that owners of Illawarra cattle know and love - longevity, fertility, hardiness, good temperament, ease of calving, the ability to deal with hot, humid conditions, end of milking profitability and calf raising ease - must make the breed attractive to all dairy farmers.
