There was no dust and no need for hats as the weather was cold and a bit wet for the recent Illawarra Feature Show at Adelaide Show but a good time was had by all.
Over 150 Illawarra supporters gathered in the big marquee to watch an excellent display of Illawarra cattle being judged by Mr Doug Savage of Canada.
Junior member, Rupert Gazzola, started proceedings off with a bang, taking first place in the first class of the day with Benedetto Empire Lady Jean and second place in the second class with Benedetto Melva 1.
The long trek from New South Wales for the Cochrane Family (Kangawara Stud) was extremely successful with three firsts in the heifer classes before taking out Champion Juvenile (Kangawarra Passion 3136), Reserve Champion Juvenile (Kangawarra MH Blossom 3271) and Hon. Mention Juvenile (Kangawarra Sunbeam 3184). Kangawarra Passion 3136 went on to be awarded Supreme Champion Juvenile.
Intermediate Champion, Glenbrook Duchess 50, was exhibited by Ian and Julie Mueller with the Reserve Champion going to Treeton Jasmine 2569 (Treeton Illawarras) and Hon Mention to the Doecke family’s Springvale Flower 51.
In a closely contested contest, Champion Cow also went to Ian and Julie Mueller with Glenbrook Rapsody 21. Reserve Champion cow was Glenhaven Jenny 6 owned by Neville and Marie Mueller and was second to the Champion Cow in the Cow, over 6 year old in milk class. Warren and Cheryl Doecke exhibited the Hon Mention Cow, Springvale Honeymoon 32.
Later in the week, Illawarra visitors gained an insight into farming in South Australia with visits to the Doecke family’s organic dairy farm and the dairy operations of David Altman and Ian and Julie Mueller.
Congratulations and thank you to the members of the South Australian Branch for the hospitality and wonderful display. Full results News/Show Results.
